CONCEPT:
In the project MIS-PLACED/MIS-UNDERSTOOD, Beverly Piersol repositions two benches from public space, installing them in an "inaccessible space", a showcase. Through this action, she questions their definition and use.
The question, "WHAT IS A BENCH?", is left open for investigation and/or interpretation. The "answer" is the responsibility of the spectator.
A slit in one of the 4 showcases provides the possibility for the passers-by to deposit their thoughts or comments and/or photos relating to the question.
These will be archived; selected ones will be anonymously exhibited and/or placed on the project website of TASTE PROJEKTE (www.taste.at)
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION:
4 show cases at Praterstrasse 42: the first asks the question (WHAT IS A BENCH?), the 2nd two display the benches, the last has a slit for the spectator, viewer, passer-by to respond to the question.
HISTORY:
Benches have played a role in the past projects of VICE VERSA (Gertrude Moser-Wagner and Beverly Piersol), both in KRAKAU/KRAKOW and in their last project, VICE VERSA 2002. Praterstrasse 42 formed the background for the complex project VICE VERSA 2002.
With the project MIS-PLACED/MIS-UNDERSTOOD Beverly Piersol makes reference to the benches used, to the context of both of these VICE VERSA actions as well as to Praterstrasse 42.
